What is Hospice Care?
Hospice care is a specialized type of healthcare that focuses on improving the quality of life for individuals with terminal illness. Hospice offers comfort to patients and their families by reducing the stress, pain and other symptoms associated with a serious/terminal illness. Our hospice services revolve around the quality of life for our patients, emotional support for the entire family, in-home management of medical needs, and the advanced management of pain and symptoms.
Hospice services are developed to provide support to patients where they reside, where they call home. This can be but isn’t limited to: Long Term Care Facilities, Assisted Living, Retirement Communities, or a the patient’s own home. The goal is to maximize the quality and comfort of the patient’s life.
Eligibility
Health care providers may refer patients to Hospice Care if the patients meet legal guidelines to be eligible. These include having a life-limiting or terminal illness, no longer seeking preventative or aggressive treatment for the illness, and genuinely wants hospice care.
Hospice care is typically covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurace plans. It’s important to note that the cost of hospice care should not be a barrier to receiving this essential service. Hospice organizations and healthcare providers can work with patients and their families to help them understand their insurance coverage and to explore financial assistance options if needed.
